Why You've Bought Four Pillows and Still Don't Have the Right One
There's probably a pillow in your linen cupboard right now that cost sixty dollars and lasted a week. Maybe two. Most people assume that's bad luck, or that they're fussy. It isn't either. Pillow shopping is set up in a way that makes getting it right almost accidental.
You Already Know This Feeling
- The cupboard. Two or three pillows you paid for, used briefly, and never threw out because it felt wasteful.
- The thirty-second test. You pressed it in the shop. That told you it was soft. It told you nothing about how it would hold your head at 3am.
- The return you didn't bother with. It wasn't faulty. It just wasn't right. So it went in the cupboard instead of back to the shop.
The Number Nobody Puts on the Label
Walk down a pillow aisle and everything is sorted by firmness. Soft, medium, firm. That's the axis the entire category is sold on.
But firmness isn't what decides whether a pillow suits you. Height is. How far the pillow holds your head off the mattress determines whether your neck sits in line with the rest of your spine or spends the night bent. A soft pillow at the wrong height is just as wrong as a firm one.
Almost no pillow states its height. And even if it did, you wouldn't know which number you needed — because that depends on how broad your shoulders are, how soft your mattress is, and which position you actually end up in once you're asleep. Nobody can tell you that in a shop. You can only find out by sleeping on it.
THE PROBLEM
You Can't Test a Pillow in Thirty Seconds
A mattress showroom gives you ten minutes lying down. A pillow gets a squeeze with your hand while you're standing up, holding a basket.
Then you take it home, sleep on it for a night, and either it works or it doesn't — and by then the packaging is open and returning it feels like more effort than it's worth. So it goes in the cupboard, and six months later you buy another one and repeat the whole thing.
THE PROBLEM
And You're Not the Same Sleeper All Night
Most people go to bed on their back and wake up on their side, or the reverse. Those two positions want different things. On your side there's a gap between your ear and the mattress about as deep as your shoulder is wide. On your back, that gap barely exists.
One fixed height has to compromise between them. It'll be close for one position and wrong for the other, and you'll spend the night quietly renegotiating.
So We Stopped Asking People to Guess
The ASF Adjustable Butterfly Pillow has a removable layer inside — 1.5cm of the same foam, sitting under the top surface. Unzip the cover, lift it out, and the pillow drops from 13.5cm to 12cm. Put it back and it returns. It takes about thirty seconds and no tools.
That's the whole idea. You don't have to know your height before you buy. You find it afterwards, in your own bed, on your own mattress, in the position you actually sleep in — and you can change your mind as many times as you like.
Two heights, set by you
12cm or 13.5cm. Change it in thirty seconds, as often as you want.
Butterfly contour
A dip in the centre for your head, a raised edge under your neck.
Shoulder cut-outs
Room for your shoulder when you're on your side, so you're not fighting the pillow.
Zip-off cover
Comes off and goes in the machine. What's underneath doesn't change.
Certified, foam and cover
CertiPUR-US® and OEKO-TEX®. Two separate certifications, neither of them ours.
Start High. Then Adjust.
Night 1
Start on the higher setting, 13.5cm, with the layer in. It's easier to judge "too high" than "too low".
Nights 2–3
It will feel strange either way. Higher and firmer than you're used to. That's normal and it isn't a sign you've chosen wrong.
Night 4
If you're waking with your chin pushed toward your chest, take the layer out. If you're not, leave it in.
Week 2
This is when most people tell us the mornings changed.
Week 3 onward
You forget you own it, which is the highest compliment a pillow gets.

How does the height adjustment work?
There's a removable 1.5cm layer of foam inside. Unzip the cover, lift it out, and the pillow drops from 13.5cm to 12cm. Put it back to raise it again. About thirty seconds, no tools, and you can do it as often as you like.
Which height should I start on?
Start on 13.5cm with the layer in. Too high is easier to recognise than too low — if you're waking with your chin pushed toward your chest, take the layer out. If you're not, leave it in.
Is it right for side sleepers?
That's mainly who it's for. The cut-outs at each wing exist so your shoulder has somewhere to go, and the higher setting is there because broad shoulders need more height. It works on your back too. If you sleep face down, this is the wrong pillow and we'd rather say so now.
What's it made of?
Memory foam, moulded to the contour, in a silver satin stretch cover that unzips and goes in the machine. CertiPUR-US® and OEKO-TEX® certified. No loose or shredded filling.
What if it isn't right for me?
100 nights at home. If neither height suits you, message us and we'll organise an exchange. We'd rather sort it out than have you put another pillow in the cupboard.
